Most equipment for decommissioning will be identified through the planned process of replacement of obsolete equipment. However, if during repair or planned maintenance our technicians find an item to be beyond economical repair, unsafe to use, etc. the item will be returned or retained in our service workshop. A defective equipment label will be attached.
Our technicians will make an assessment of the equipment and will report to the Clinical Engineer. The Data Base inventory will be updated. Where appropriate the equipment may be disassembled and serviceable parts will be salvaged. Salvageable parts will be either labeled or bagged and labeled with reference to the machine, equipment or manufacturer they came from. Unusable parts will be disposed of by notifying the porters to arrange collection. Precautions will be taken to follow in-house waste disposal policy.
